FAQs

How do I book my initial appointment?

Visit the page page for the psychologist you wish to book with. If they are listed as accepting new clients, then you can book in with them quickly and easily online! Simply click the Client Portal button at the top of the page or the Book Online button on the psychologists page, and select the location you wish to attend. When you book your appointment you will be prompted to briefly describe the general nature of the problems you are experiencing (e.g., occupational stress, low mood). This information will help our psychologists to ensure that they have the training and expertise necessary to provide appropriate services. For example, some psychologists work primarily with children, others provide services exclusively to adults. You may receive a brief phone call or email from from the psychologist you have selected prior to your appointment if further clarification is required. If the services you require differ from those provided by the psychologist, we will try to provide you with information on where you can go to find the services you require.

If the psychologist’s page indicates that they are not accepting new clients, then you may be able to get on a wait list for services. Wait list times can vary from weeks to several months. Please email the individual psychologist you would like to work with and ask to be added to their wait list.

How long do sessions last?

The majority of sessions are scheduled for one hour; however, the actual time spent in therapy is 50 minutes. The last 10 minutes of your hour is used by your psychologist to make notes about the session and plan for your next appointment.

Some treatment protocols recommend 90 minute sessions, with a total of 80 minutes of time spent in therapy (10 minutes of notes and planning).

Unless otherwise discussed, your sessions will be scheduled for one hour. Your psychologist will discuss with you the recommended session length depending on your presenting problem and treatment plan.

How much does each session cost?

In accordance with published rates from provincial and federal programs operating in Saskatchewan, our hourly therapy rate is set at $235. This price includes 50 minutes of treatment, 10 minutes of report writing and administration.

If you require longer sessions, the price will vary accordingly.

The cost for comprehensive assessments vary depending on the nature and duration of testing required. If you require an assessment, please discuss this with your QueensBridge psychologist during your intake call.

Do you take insurance?

All of our psychologists offer direct billing options; however, not all of our psychologists work with the same insurers. If we are unable to direct bill your insurance company, we are happy to provide you a receipt so that you can submit a claim for reimbursement. Please note that insurers differ in the amount they reimburse. Please contact your insurer to determine the extent of your coverage.

How often should I book my sessions?

How often you attend depends on what works for you, the severity of the problems you are facing, your schedule, and financial considerations. Often, clients will book anywhere from one appointment a week to once a month (or less frequently once therapy is complete to check in and help troubleshoot any minor issues).

While the frequency of attendance is up to you, current research suggests that optimal results are achieved when clients attend therapy on a more frequent basis:

  • A 2015 study of 21,488 clients over 17 years who attended a university counselling center found that clients who attended weekly sessions demonstrated faster gains in therapy compared to those attending sessions every two weeks. Link

  • A 2016 study of 136 female clients attending therapy for treatment of PTSD (prolonged exposure therapy [PE] or cognitive processing therapy [CPT]) found that shorter periods of time between sessions was associated with a higher rate of reduction in PTSD symptoms during therapy. Researchers concluded that twice weekly sessions are optimal for CPT and PE interventions. Link

Your psychologist may make recommendations regarding frequency and number of sessions based on your areas of concern and progress in therapy.

Is therapy for me?

There are many reasons why an individual may seek the services of a psychologist, including difficulty with mood, relationship problems, or challenges coping with life stressors. You do not need to have a diagnosed mental health condition to benefit from treatment and a referral from a physician is not required.

We all experience periods of distress throughout our lives, sometimes in reaction to a stressor and sometimes for what seems to be no reason at all. When distress is low and you can cope well enough that it doesn’t interfere with your life, treatment may not be warranted. However, when distress is high or the problems your are facing are beginning to cause issues in your life (e.g., work, school, relationships with others) then individual therapy is likely to be useful. In general, the two best indicators of a good candidate for therapy are awareness of the need to change and a commitment to doing things differently moving forward.

How many sessions are required?

Therapy is not a life-long commitment. The nature and duration of treatment will depend on the reason for seeking services, your preferences, and the recommendations of your psychologist; however, all interventions are time limited. Our goal is to assist you in better understanding the factors maintaining the problems you are facing and in discovering methods to either resolve the issue or allow you to better cope with current circumstances. In this way, successful therapy is as much about helping you work through current problems as it is providing the tools to help you cope with difficulties you may experience in the future.

What is your cancelation policy?

Your time is as valuable, as is ours!

We appreciate that things can change at the last minute; however, we require sufficient notice in order to be able to offer your appointment to others in need should you be unable to attend.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment more than 24 hours prior to your session, you may do so by logging into your Jane online booking account. There is no additional charge for canceling or rescheduling more than 24 hours prior to your appointment.

It is not possible to cancel or reschedule your appointment through Jane online booking less than 24 hours prior to your appointment. If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please contact your psychologist by phone so that she is aware of the change in schedule.

Please note that cancellations within 24 hours of your appointment are subject to a cancellation fee of 50% of the cost of each session.

If you do not show for your appointment and you did not provide notice of cancellation, you may be charged a no-show fee of the full cost of the appointment.

Payment of these fee must be arranged before a new appointment can be scheduled. If you are late for your appointment, your psychologist will end the session on time to ensure their other time commitments are met.
